Description
1974 (rev. 1977, 2008)
Originally commissioned for a young persons' concert, the goal of 'Lonely Island' was to demonstrate the bassoon's remarkably expressive range. Thus, Weait employs many 20th century techniques to create a unique, expressive soundscape.
The work features unmeasured notation throughout, using non-traditional techniques including: glissandi, varying vibrato and articulations, key snaps and harmonics. Unusual fingerings are given in the music, and there are comprehensive performer's notes to aid the bassoonist in conquering new techniques.
